The U.S. Small Business Administration today presented NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory with the SBA Award of Distinction for its work in assisting smaller enterprises.
Thomas A. Dumaresq, the SBA's associate administrator for government contracting in Washington, D.C., said the agency especially wanted to commend Thomas May, JPL's small-business liaison officer.
"He shows exceptionally strong support of the Laboratory's small-business program and plays an active role in promoting opportunities for small businesses at JPL," Dumaresq said.
Fewer than two percent of the SBA's portfolio of large contractors receive the award, he noted. The distinction was initiated in 1985 to recognize large federal contractors that have exceptional programs using small businesses.
The award was presented to JPL Deputy Director Larry Dumas by Alberto Alvarado, the SBA's district director for Southern California, at a special meeting of JPL's Executive Council.
