Roger Gibbs, Director for Engineering and Science
Roger Gibbs has held a number of positions in both Project and Line assignments. Beginning in 1983 on the Galileo mission working in the Spacecraft Systems Section, he moved on to support the Mars Observer mission in several roles, the Cassini Mission as manager of the Systems Engineering group and later Flight System System Engineer. Roger then transitions to Flight Project assignments as the 2001 Mars Odysey Flight System Manager and then Project Engineer (in operations); followed by Formulation roles as the Mars Telecommunication Orbiter Project Manager and Mars Scout SCIM mission.
Returning to a Line assignment Roger took on the role of Division Manager of the Autonomous Systems Division; then the Deputy Director for the Mars Exploration Directorate where he took on the additional duty of Pre-project Manager of the Europa Lander.
Roger’s previous assignment was the Deputy Director for the Engineering and Science Directorate. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California. He received a NASA Exceptional Service Medal in 1993 for his contribution to the Galileo and Mars Observer spacecraft, and a NASA Exceptional Service medal for his technical contribution and leadership to the Cassini Project.
