The education office at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory recently relaunched its website with new capabilities and offerings for formal and informal educators, K-12 students and aspiring JPL interns and fellows.
The updated website, called "NASA/JPL Edu," features a growing assortment of educator and student activities and resources, events, internship programs and educational news and blogs. The website also now provides a customized space for each of its distinct audiences -- educators, students and interns -- allowing for a more personalized and targeted experience.
Formal and informal educators can find activities, resources and workshops in the website's "Teach" section, which features:
-- A growing collection of NASA and JPL activities and lessons aligned to Next Generation Science and Common Core Math Standards.
-- The ability to search for activities by standard, grade level, subject, topic and activity type.
-- An extensive list of resources, including materials, downloads and printouts, websites and interactives.
-- Upcoming educator workshops and events hosted by JPL and NASA.
Students in grades K-12 can explore projects, videos and resources, and find out about upcoming contests and competitions in the "Learn" section. Additional highlights include:
-- Videos, projects, games and slideshows about Earth, the Solar System and beyond (with quizzes coming soon).
-- A student toolkit with resources such as career advice, facts and figures, multimedia and news.
-- A calendar of student contests and competitions hosted by JPL, including the National Science Bowl and the Cassini Scientist for a Day Essay Contest.
STEM undergrads, graduate students, postdocs and faculty can apply for internship and fellowship opportunities in the website's "Intern" section, which features:
-- Information about internships and fellowships at JPL and how to apply.
-- An internship and fellowship listing and online applications.
-- News and feature stories about JPL interns and internship programs.
The website is optimized for mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets.
"We've looked at the preferences of our visitors and created a dynamic website that will quickly and efficiently get them to new and exciting content -- as well as to their old familiar favorites," said Parvin Kassaie, manager of JPL's education office. "The relaunched JPL Education website is a gateway to STEM content, products and services in an adaptable design that brings the discoveries and inspiration of JPL and NASA space exploration to learners and educators online."
