he first-ever NASA-sponsored conference on the rapidly expanding field of quantum computing, the NASA International Conference on Quantum Computing and Quantum Communications, takes place February 17-20 at the Wyndham Palm Springs Hotel, Palm Springs, California.
Quantum computing utilizes revolutionary algorithms to achieve a significant increase in speed. Although quantum computing has emerged over the last three years, its vast potential is only now being appreciated in fields outside of computing. This conference brings together leaders in quantum computing with NASA researchers to investigate innovative approaches for solving challenges together.
Participants at the conference, called "NASA-QCQC'98" will include major research and development organizations from government and industry.
The conference will mix talks on quantum computing and communciations with short lectures about NASA's programmatic requirements, particularly as they relate to autonomous systems and information management, space microsystems, interferometry, deep space communication, molecular nanotechnology and the development of secure commands.
The Conference Chair is Charles Bennett of IBM's T.J. Watson Research Laboratory. This event is sponsored by the NASA/JPL Autonomy and Information Management Technology Program, the NASA/JPL Center for Integrated Space Microsystems and the NASA/JPL Center for Space Microelectronics Technology.
