Magnetic Coiling
Jet Propulsion Laboratory https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/ July 18, 2016
One broad active region sported a wonderful example of coiled magnetic field lines over almost a four-day period (July 15-18, 2016). The magnetic lines are easily visible in this 171 Angstrom wavelength of extreme ultraviolet light be cause charged particles are spiraling along the lines. The active region is a hotbed of struggling magnetic forces that were pushing out above the sun's surface.
