The Studio at JPL
The Studio is a team of designers, artists, makers, strategists, and thinkers. We are passionate about helping scientists and engineers imagine the future, and giving people a sense of awe about the universe.
Visions of the Future Poster Series
The Studio led the effort to design these travel posters for destinations around our solar system, as well as real worlds around other stars. Nine artists, designers, and illustrators were involved in designing the 14 posters, which are the result of many brainstorming sessions with JPL scientists, engineers, and expert communicators. Each poster went through a number of concepts and revisions, and each was made better with feedback from the JPL experts.

Orbit
Orbit is a sound experience that allows you to listen to the movement of NASA’s Earth Science satellites as they pass across the sky above you. From rising sea levels to the changing availability of freshwater, NASA enables studies that unravel the complexities of our planet from the highest reaches of Earth’s atmosphere to its core. By pairing the trajectory data of each spacecraft to artistically created sounds, you can listen to spacecraft move across the sky much like you hear a plane passing over your head. Visual Strategy for Future Missions
While we do not solve equations or engineer landing gears, we do look at the world differently than a scientist or an engineer. In rooms such as Left Field, we organize their information and ask them questions that their peers do not ask, with the hope that it will help them see their incredibly complicated ideas in a new way. Or, as we say, “help them think through their thinking”.
