The NASA press room for the Viking Mars landing mission will open Monday, June 14, in the von Karman auditorium at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, 48OO Oak Grove Dr., Pasadena.

The NASA press room for the Viking Mars landing mission will open Monday, June 14, in the von Karman auditorium at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, 48OO Oak Grove Dr., Pasadena.

A mission briefing will be held at 9:OO am, Tuesday, June 15.

Viking 1 will be inserted into Mars orbit on June 19. The Viking 1 landing is scheduled for July 4th.

Viking 2 will orbit Mars on August 7 with the landing scheduled for September 4.

The Viking mission is conducted by the Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA. JPL is responsible for the Orbiter spacecraft and tracking and communications. Martin Marietta, Denver, Colorado, is responsible to Langley for the Lander.
