Casper "Casey" F. Mohl, a longtime senior technical manager at JPL who retired from the Laboratory in 1989, died Nov. 7 due to complications following heart surgery.
Mohl, a resident of Altadena, CA, held numerous assignments dating back to the pioneering days preceding JPL's development of the first U.S. satellite and the start of the Space Age. He served in various assignments in spacecraft mission engineering, including system engineer for NASA's Lunar Polar Orbiter mission, and oversaw numerous future and ongoing JPL efforts as manager of JPL's Office of Planning and Review. Before his retirement, Mohl was manager of the planning and engineering office in JPL's former Flight Projects Office.
Born in 1922 in Pennsylvania, Mohl held a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from George Washington University and a law degree from Glendale College of Law. He was a member of the California Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Pasadena Bar Association, and the American Institute of Astronautics and Aeronautics.
A World War II veteran, Mohl served in the U.S. Army's 28th Infantry Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
