The Jet Propulsion Laboratory has announced the reorganization of its business and financial operations, and the planned recruitment of a new senior financial executive.
The Laboratory has initiated a nationwide search to fill the newly created position of JPL controller. That executive will oversee the Laboratory's financial operations and will be a member of JPL's Executive Council.
The new controller and JPL Business Operations Director John Heie will report to JPL Associate Director Kirk M. Dawson, who will carry the additional title of chief administrative officer.
"Our intent is to create a focused, strategic and coordinated approach to management of the financial resources entrusted to JPL by the federal government," said JPL Director Dr. Edward C. Stone.
The reorganization followed a four-month study by a team with participation from JPL and the California Institute of Technology that benchmarked business and financial processes at 10 other organizations, including several technology companies and federal laboratories.
Caltech manages JPL, a federally funded research and development center, for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
