Dr. Macgregor S. Reid, technical executive assistant to the director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has been elected to membership in the International Academy of Astronautics.

Dr. Macgregor S. Reid, technical executive assistant to the director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has been elected to membership in the International Academy of Astronautics.

The International Academy of Astronautics was established in 1959 by Theodore von Karman, founder of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Dedicated to international cooperation in the space sciences, the organization works with the various national academies of science, bringing together approximately 1,000 leaders of space and aeronautical endeavors around the world. Several current and retired members of the JPL staff have been elected to the academy.

Born in South Africa, where he earned degrees in mathematics, electrical engineering and radio physics, Reid joined JPL in 1969, and conducted research and development in telecommunications. He subsequently became program planning manager for the Office of Tracking and Data Acquisition before joining the Office of the Director. Reid has published more than 80 technical papers and received many awards.

He is a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and a senior member of the American Astronautical Society. He is also active in international groups, including the International Standards Organization and the International Astronautical Federation, of which he is deputy vice president.

Reid and his wife have three children and reside in La Canada Flintridge, Calif.
