Dr. Tobias Wenger is a Microdevices Engineer at JPL’s Microdevices Laboratory (MDL). His research interests intersect subwavelength photonics and metasurfaces, integrated photonics, microfabrication, and characterization of optical components.

Tobias has been involved in a number of research projects during his time at JPL. This has included designing metasurface-based mid-IR optical concentrators and their subsequent integration with infrared photodetectors for enhanced detector performance. He has also developed metasurfaces for wavefront sensing in the astronomical H-band and in the visible spectrum. Additionally, Tobias has been designing and fabricating spectropolarimetric UV gratings intended for Earth-science applications. Tobias has almost a decade of experience with computational subwavelength electromagnetics, as well as several years of cleanroom microfabrication process development experience related to metasurface nanostructures.
