"Bringing the Benefits of Space Technology to Earth" will be the theme for a free public presentation to be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 15, in JPL's von Krmn Auditorium, 4800 Oak Grove Drive, Pasadena. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The talk will illustrate how technologies developed at JPL for space exploration can be applied to a variety of industries such as computer technology, health care, communications and the environment.
A variety of technologies developed for JPL's space exploration program, such as robotic arms that are used for delicate microsurgery, infrared instruments that have led to new medical instruments such as non-invasive, digital thermometers, and various microelectronic devices will be showcased during the evening presentation.
Dr. Al Pappano, manager of JPL's Commercial Development Office in the Technology Transfer and Commercialization Program, will host the talk. Pappano is involved in the development of technological collaborations with state and economic agencies, working with the private sector to enhance JPL's visibility as a technology resource, and with the public sector to convey the benefits of JPL's technology transfer and commercialization efforts.
Following the presentation, guests will be given the opportunity to participate in a hands-on demonstration of several products developed by JPL.
