JPL Director Dr. Edward C. Stone will receive the 1991 ARCS Foundation Science Man of the Year Award for outstanding contributions to the field of science at the foundation's 34th Annual Ball, to be held Saturday, April 20, at the Regency Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
Stone will be honored for his longstanding contributions to science as project scientist of the Voyager Mission to explore the outer planets of the solar system.
Presenting the award to Stone will be Mrs. George Acker, president of the Los Angeles chapter of ARCS, and Charlotte Meier, chairman of the ball. Television host and master of ceremonies, Art Linkletter, will be on hand to interview Stone.
Since its inception in 1958, the ARCS (Achievement Reward for College Scientists) Foundation has provided more than $12 million in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students in the natural sciences, medicine and engineering.
The foundation's Los Angeles chapter supports nine colleges and universities in Southern California, including the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Harvey Mudd College, Occidental, Pomona, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the University of Southern California and UCLA.
The ball opens at 7 p.m. Saturday, with the award's ceremony beginning at 8:30 p.m. The Regency Beverly Wilshire Hotel is located at 9500 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, Calif.
