Archaeological Map
map of Angkor Archaeological Map

The radar survey led to this new archeological map, revealing ruins that spill over 1,000 square kilometers (about 400 square miles) outside of the World Heritage site that surrounds the ancient temple of Angkor Wat. The map shows Angkor as a vast, low-density urban complex not unlike the classic Mayan cities of Mexico's Yucatan peninsula.

The new map shows that land use modifications produced very serious ecological problems, including deforestation, overpopulation, topsoil degradation and erosion.
