By correlating the new radar data with on-the-ground sampling, scientists identified more than a thousand new human-made ponds and at least 74 long-lost temples.

Topsar/Airsar is a radar system that simultaneously generates radar images at various wavelengths and generates elevation maps. It penetrates clouds and can sense differences in plant growth and moisture content resulting from very small topographical variations, indicative of archaeological development.
