After traveling more than 4.5 billion kilometers (almost 3 billion miles) on its seven year round-trip odyssey, the Stardust mission returned to Earth in the early morning hours of Jan. 15, 2006. The return capsule carried history's first pristine samples of a comet. These samples are helping scientists better understand comets and the origins of our solar system.
