Tour Frequently Asked Questions

How much walking is on the tour? How many stairs?

The total walking distance of the tour is approximately 1 mile, but that distance is broken into shorter portions throughout the tour. This includes hills and multiple sets of stairs. Elevators are available to bypass the stairs; however, the distances are unavoidable. Please notify your tour guides if you would like to take the elevators during your tour.

What do I need to bring for the tour?

It is required that you bring a current, government issued ID. If you are a US citizen, a Driver's License is acceptable. All non-US citizens must bring their passport.

Other allowable/recommended items:

  • Camera for personal use only
  • Video camera for personal use only
  • Water bottle
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Comfortable clothing for the weather
  • Umbrella (for rain and/or shade)
  • Bags and backpacks are allowed, however we encourage students to leave them on the bus if possible.

Can I bring my wheelchair, walker, or motorized scooter?

We actually encourage guests with limited/restricted mobility to bring their own assistance devices. But, JPL cannot provide any of the above, nor do we have a shuttle service available.

If I do not have a reservation for a tour can I still visit JPL?

Unfortunately, No. JPL is a closed facility and does not permit any guests who have not been cleared through our security department. Further, no same-day requests will be processed.

Is there a cost for the tour / parking?

Tours and parking are free of charge. Our parking area can accommodate cars, buses, and RV's.

Where will the bus park?

Our security team will direct the bus driver to a suitable disembarking location, then on to a suitable parking location.

Can we have lunch at JPL?

Unfortunately, No. Our security requirements prohibit guests from eating at our facility. There is a city park located near JPL where guests can eat, and there are numerous restaurants located near JPL.

What happens if the weather is poor?

Our tours are conducted rain or shine. Please be reminded that much of the tour consists of walking outside. Bring weather appropriate clothing / gear.

How do I submit my roster?

You will submit your roster through our tour reservation system. You can access your reservation by following this link and entering your reservation number and email address. From here you can modify your roster. Once all of the names have been entered, Finalize the roster. The roster must be finalized 3 weeks prior to the date of your tour. We do not accept rosters via fax or email. The roster must include all persons who will be attending the tour. No same day substitutions will be permitted.
