Lava Layering activity

Teachers for grades K-12

Overview:

Teachers learn how to engage students in Earth science essentials with an activity that simulates lava flows and the methods scientists use to study them. Participants will create a volcano model using play dough and gather samples of the newly formed layers, much like NASA scientists do on Earth – and rovers do on Mars.

Note: This workshop is FREE for all pre-service and fully credentialed teachers! Participants are required to bring in their teacher or student ID the day of the workshop. Lunch will be provided.
