JPL's SeaWinds scatterometer instrument will be flown on Japan's Advanced Earth Observing Satellite 2 (Adeos 2). Scatterometers sense ripples caused by winds near the ocean's surface, from which scientists compute wind speed and direction. The mission is expected to yield improvements in global weather forecasting and new insights into various Earth research investigations.
