Missions:
The following list includes missions that study the universe and its stars and galaxies.
(Unless otherwise noted, the missions are managed by JPL.)

Galaxy Evolution Explorer Galaxy Evolution Explorer
This mission will use ultraviolet wavelengths to measure the history of star formation 80 percent of the way back to the Big Bang.

Advanced Radio Interferometry between Earth and Space (ARISE) Advanced Radio Interferometry between Earth and Space (ARISE)
This future mission will combine the power of Earth-orbiting telescopes and ground-based telescopes to study black holes.

Space Very Long Baseline Interferometry (Space VLBI) Space Very Long Baseline Interferometry (Space VLBI)
This is the site for a Japanese mission that uses interferometry to study black holes. NASA and JPL are international partners in this mission.

Herschel Space Observatory Herschel Space Observatory
Herschel is a mission being developed by the European Space Agency, with NASA as a participant. It will be an orbiting infrared telescope that will take high-resolution images in the submillimeter and far-infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. These images will help explain how stars and planetary systems form. Their site is under development.

Two Micron All-Sky Survey Two Micron All-Sky Survey
This site features an array of colorful images from a pair of telescopes, one in Arizona, one in Chile, that has surveyed the entire nighttime sky using infrared light.
