FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 1, 1993
Dr. Edward C. Stone, director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has been named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), it was announced today.
Stone, who was chosen by his peers for the honor, was named for his work in physics. He was one of 249 scientists named Fellows by the AAAS in September.
They will be presented with an official certificate and a pin at the Fellows Forum during the AAAS annual meeting in San Francisco next February 20.
Fellows are nominated by peers in their same discipline or by the association's executive office. The AAAS Council, the association's policy-making body, makes the final decisions.
Founded in 1848, the AAAS represents the world's largest federation of scientists and has more than 137,000 members. It publishes the weekly peer review journal Science.
