NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif., has selected the Bendix Field Enginering Corporation (BFEC) for negotiations leading to an award of contract for the continuation of maintenance and operations of the Deep Space Network (DSN).
The new cost-plus award-fee contract will be for period of five years with provisions for an additional five years of options. Following negotiations, the new contract is expected to begin April 1, 1987.
The DSN is operated by JPL to provide tracking and data acquisition support for planetary and interplanetary spaceflight missions for NASA manned and unmanned space programs.
Bendix Field Engineering has been the DSN maintenance and operation support contractor to JPL since 1978. The company employs approximately 600 people to support the DSN. Work is performed at JPL in Pasadena and at the Goldstone complex and Barstow facility in the Mojave Desert of California.
BFEC, with headquarters in Columbia, Md., is technical Services unit of Bendix Aerospace Sector of Allied- Signal Inc.
