College Fjord, Alaska |
A fjord is a long inlet from the sea, bordered by steep, sloping walls. College Fjord is surrounded by vegetation (seen in red). Snow and ice are white and blue.
Harvard Glacier, one of the few advancing glaciers in the area, has dark streaks of rock and dirt. Yale Glacier is receding, showing bedrock where once there was ice. Icebergs are white dots in the blue water.
The image was created by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer on the Terra satellite.
