NASA's Spirit rover took this westward view from atop a low plateau where the rover spent the closing months of 2007. Before reaching this spot, Spirit climbed onto the eastern edge of the plateau and examined rocks and soils at several locations. Afterwards the rover headed for a favorable winter haven where its solar panels could have the best exposure to the sun during the martian winter. + Full image and caption + More 3-D |
