This new study of Angkor will help scientists better understand the nature of urban settlements in Southeast Asia and will aid in future studies of other ancient temple complexes in this region of the world. Some of these other temple complexes could also someday reveal ancient urban settlements now lying within a veil of vegetation or hiding underneath modern settlements, waiting to be discovered.
