With giant Saturn backlit by the sun, the Cassini spacecraft provided a new view of the rings, revealing previously unknown faint rings. Cassini even glimpsed Earth (the faint dot just outside the golden rings, at about 10 o'clock).
The images that make up this mosaic were acquired as Cassini drifted in the darkness of Saturn's shadow for about 12 hours, allowing a multitude of unique observations of the microscopic particles that compose Saturn's faint rings.
