Arriving nine months after Voyager 1, Voyager
2 comes within 41,000 kilometers (26,000 miles) of Saturn. The combined
mission greatly expands our knowledge of the planet, giving us a
better understanding of the planet's ring structure and magnetosphere;
more data about the shrouded moon Titan; and the discovery of three
more moons circling the massive planet.
Like its twin, Voyager 2's mission is extended.
Unlike Voyager 1, Voyager 2 heads off for two more planetary encounters:
Uranus and Neptune.
