Asteroid Lutetia is one of the largest asteroids in the solar system. It is has many craters and a giant bowl-shaped depression. This close-up image was taken in July 2010 as the European Space Agency’s Rosetta Orbiter flew past and studied the asteroid.
This image was taken when the orbiter was at its closest to the asteroid - just under 2,000 miles away. The images from Rosetta confirm that asteroid Lutetia has an elongated body, with its longest side about 80 miles long.
