Space Images For Students
Jupiter Giant Jupiter
Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. Its diameter is eleven times that of Earth.

Clouds and storms in Jupiter's atmosphere are visible in this image. The Great Red Spot is a giant storm that has been continuously observed since the 1800s. The small, bright clouds to its left grow and disappear over a few days and create lightning. The same type of clouds can be seen in similar locations in the northern half of Jupiter. These small storms on Jupiter are the size of the largest hurricanes on Earth.

NASA's Cassini spacecraft took this image during its journey to Saturn.
