William J. Weber
Director, JPL Interplanetary Network Directorate
William J. Weber is the Director for JPL's Interplanetary Network Directorate. The Directorate is responsible for space telecommunications, navigation, and many other mission operations services and tools for space missions. Major responsibilities include NASA's Deep Space Network, JPL's Multi-Mission Ground Data Systems and Services, and lead directorate for Information Technology. For nearly 6 years before his current assignment, Dr. Weber was the Director for the Engineering and Science Directorate, home to the majority of JPL's 3000 technical personnel. Prior to this Weber held line management positions in the Telecommunications Division (Division Manager, Section Manager, and Group Supervisor) as well as program management positions (JPL's NASA Technology Program and founder of the JPL Satellite Communications Program). Weber made significant technical contributions to space communications in the early part of his 38 year JPL career. Dr. Weber holds a BS and masters degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University and a PhD in EE from the University of Southern California. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and the AIAA, and a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Eta Kappa Nu, and Sigma Xi honoraries. He has received the NASA Exceptional Service Medal and numerous NASA Group Achievement Awards.
