Christopher Jones
Director for Solar System Exploration
Christopher P. Jones is Director for Solar System Exploration at Pasadena's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He came to his present position from the Space Science Flight Projects Directorate where he was Deputy Director. From 1991 to 1998 he was the Spacecraft Development Manager for the Cassini Program and subsequently managed the Space Interferometry Mission. Since joining JPL in 1969, Mr. Jones has contributed to the design, test and flight operations of numerous planetary spacecraft including Mariner 9, Voyager and Galileo, and has managed the Laboratory's Spacecraft Systems Engineering, and Guidance and Control sections. Mr. Jones graduated with a BS degree in 1968 and an MS degree in 1969, both in aerospace engineering, from the University of Southern California. He has received numerous NASA awards and citations, including NASA's Exceptional Service Medal for his work on Voyager, the Outstanding Leadership Medal for Cassini, and the Distinguished Service Medal for his contribution to deep space exploration.
